Your career shouldn’t be a one-way street. You will no doubt encounter entrances and exits all along your unique path. Here’s a piece of advice: “Don’t be afraid of the curves…in fact lean into them and find a way to enjoy the ride”. That’s our takeaway from this month’s Q&A with MAP Member Salley O. as she prepares to return to work with a little change in direction and help from The MAP Agency!

MAP Member Spotlight: Salley O.

Tell us about your previous work experience?

I have had a rather varied work experience from college volleyball coach, college health education and prevention, and school counselor. I love working with and helping people!

How long have you been out of the traditional workforce?

I have been out of the traditional workforce for about a year and a half. During that time I consulted part-time in the areas of career and leadership development through my work with a local firm and my own consulting firm.

What are your thoughts on returning to work and the Return to Work Program?

The program was extremely instrumental in helping me navigate this transition. I am excited and nervous about returning to the traditional workforce, but the routine and the structure the workday provides fit my personality well.

What are you most looking forward to about returning to work?

Having a “work family” and meeting new people. So excited!

What did you love most about your career break?

Time I had with my daughter. Being there for her was a blessing.

Finally, give us one of your favorite quotes or a book that you have read that impacted the way you think or view life.

“Not all those who wander are lost” – J.R.R. Tolkien… This quote helps me realize that even though I may have seemed to have “wandered astray” in my career choices, I have learned a lot from each choice I’ve made and those choices have led me to my present position.
